1: What is Active
Directory?
AD is a directory service in Windows 2000 networks.
It’s a hierarchical database that stores information
regarding network recourses that makes centralized access.
Resources include users, computers, printers and any shared
files and folders, servers, domains and sites across the network.
2: Minimum
Requirements for an AD?
Windows 2000 or higher Server operating System
200 MB free space for AD
50 MB for log files
2: What is DHCP? (If
you can alteast by heart it)
DHCP is dynamic host configuration protocol.
It’s used to assign the IP address automatically to the
client pcs.
The DHCP Process is expressed by the words DORA
D-Discover
O-Offer
R-Request
A-Acknowledge
Discover-Once the client pc is requested to assign IP automatically
it will search for the dhcp server first.
Offer-The DHCP Sever which accepts the discover packet will
Offer the IP address for the client.
Request-Which ever packet that offers IP reaches the client
first, the client will request for it.
Acknowledge: The Ip Offered
by the DHCP server is acknowledged by the server once the client request
for it.
3: What is DNS?
DNS is Domain Naming System.
It’s used for resolving domain name to Ip address and IP
address to Domain name.
Thre are two zones in DNS:
Reverse lookup zone-Resolve Ip address to domain name
4: What is the
command used to check the DNS resolution?
Nslookup domain name
Or
Nslookup ipaddress
5: How AD and DNS is
related?
AD uses DNS for finding and resolving the domain names.
Without DNS a domain controller can act as only a stand alone server.
6: What is an
exchange server?
An exchange server is an enterprise mail messaging system
which uses MAPI clients.
7: What is VPN?
VPN is virtual private network which is used to secure your
private network or personal network once you are connecting to a public network
like internet. It also protects you from the net hackers. We can use software
called SERA to connect to VPN
Scenario Questions:
A user is not able to
access the internet? What all steps you take to resolve the issue?
1: Ask the user if he/she is able to login to the domain?
And only internet is not working?
If user is bale to login to the domain and only internet is
not working first you have to check the TCP/IP protocol settings.
Right click my network places…> properties….>local
area connection…>right click and go for properties…..>select TCP/IP
protocol properties and check whether the pc is assigned with static ip address.
If office network is using the dynamic ip address it should
be DHCP enabled.
Change the network settings.
2: User is not able
to login to the Domain?
1: Check if the
pc is in network
2: Check the green light is blinking near to the network
port.
3: If the light is blinking login as administrator and check
the network settings.
4: Rejoin the pc to domain.
5: Check in the AD users and computers that the user account
exists and it is not disabled.
6: Reset the user password and try to login
7: Try with any other ad account that they are able to
login.
8: If the light is not blinking connect new network cable to
the port and check if any issues with cable.
9: In the device manager check if the LAN is disabled.
10: After replacing the network cable also if it is not
working connect the pc to a working network port and check. If working issue is
with the network port
11: Again if it is not working reinstall the network drivers
and check.
12: If not log the call for the vendor for the hardware
replacement.
3: How to configure a
network printer?
A network printer can be configured in two ways:
1: Using printers and faxes console
2: From the print server
1: Using printers and
faxes console:
…>Go for add printer…>select the network printer or a printer attached to another
computer...>select a printer in directory….> you can specify the name of
the printer and give ok
2: Using the print
server:
Go to start…>run….> \\ print server name\printer name
4: Once the user
opens the browser its showing page can’t be displayed?
Go to tools…>options….>advanced Tab…>security-àenable
the active x contents and Plug-in
Go to Connections…>LAN settings…..>select automatic
settings if you are not using proxy.
Enter the proxy settings if used.
5: User is not able
to connect to the VPN?
Check whether the user id is enabled to access the VPN
Check the Firewall settings in services.msc console.
Check the Remote Procedure Call is started in the pc since
VPN is dependant on RPC
If the firewall is enabled stop the firewall.
Once the check is done check the user id in some other pc to
check whether his id is active for VPN.
If he is able to access from other pc, reinstall the vpn
software in his pc.
If his id is not working in any other pc, try logging to his
pc with a vpn enabled id.
If that Id is working, there is no issue with the vpn
software.
Ask the user to get the management approval to get the
access and provide the contact number of the team if necessary.
5: User is not able
to connect to the remote desktop?
Make sure that the remote desktop connection and remote
assistance is enabled in user machine and to the pc which he is trying to
connect.
Stop the windows Firewall Internet Connection sharing
service.
Check the access permissions if it is a server
In the services.msc console make sure routing and remote
access is enabled.
6: PC is not booting?
Switch on the power and check if any smoke is coming out of
the pc.
If not check any beep sound is coming out.
If not check alteast the display is coming?
If the display is not coming and the pc is on check whether
the monitor is working?
Check the RAM is working
Problem can be with the display card also
If display is coming and pc is not booting ask the user if
he have recently installed any software because even that software can cause
the problem.
Press F8 at booting to go for the logon option window.
Select last known good configuration and see if it is
booting.
If not repeat the same step and select safe mode and boot.
If booting check is any software installed and removes it.
Try to do the system restore.
If nothing happens…try to repair the os….>if not working
again connect the hardisk to other pc and take the backup. Reimage the pc.
7: How do we analyse
the error with beep cods?
There are different kinds of beeps codes that indicate
failure. It depends on manufactures.
Well known beep codes are:
Continuous beep sound: Problem with RAM
1 long beep and 2 short beeps –problem with VGA
1 long beep and three short beeps- DRAM parity
8: What all ways an
OS can be installed?
We can install os manually from CD.
We can use L imagining software and create the image.
We can install from a ghost image if it the same model pc.
We can install the OS with the kick start if it is Linux.
